Jesse Combs

President and CEO

Jesse Combs is a life-long entrepreneur who has founded, acquired, built, and sold many companies over his career. At age 19, Mr. Combs entered into the refrigerant distribution market by founding Coolgas, Inc., in which he bought and sold refrigerant gases. Mr. Combs relocated to Houston in 1997 and subsequently built Coolgas, into one of the leading suppliers of refrigerant gas in the United States. In 2012, Coolgas was acquired by A-Gas, Inc., an international refrigerant distribution company. Soon after, Mr. Combs founded Atomic Capital to pursue investment opportunities in the oil and gas and commodities sectors. Through the Combs Family Office, Mr. Combs also invests in other areas such as early stage growth equity and real estate.

Joel French

General Counsel
Chief Financial Officer

Joel French serves as General Counsel and Chief Financial Officer for Atomic Capital. Mr. French also served in the same roles at Coolgas from January 2007 to September 2012, where he also led the due diligence team in the acquisition of Coolgas by A-Gas. Prior to joining Coolgas, Mr. French practiced law in the Houston area, specializing in business and tax law. Mr. French is an attorney and CPA, having received a law degree from South Texas College of Law in 1987 and a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Houston in 1983.

Justin Smith

Vice President
Business Development

Justin Smith is responsible for investment strategy and implementation as well as transaction due diligence. Prior to joining Atomic Mr. Smith worked at Ernst & Young LLP, where he performed M&A advisory services for publicly traded firms in the oil and gas and oilfield services sectors. Prior to Ernst & Young Mr. Smith worked at Transition Capital Partners, a Dallas based private equity firm, where he was responsible for deal origination, transaction due diligence, and market research. Mr. Smith holds a B.S. in Communication Studies from the University of Texas and a M.B.A. in Accounting and Finance from Southern Methodist University.

Heather Tipsword

Vice President of Land

Heather Tipsword oversees all land management activities, including: title curative and examination, lease and division order analysis, and related functions. Prior to joining Atomic Ms. Tipsword spent eight years as an independent landman, performing land and title work for various operators around the country.Ms. Tipsword has certification in Petroleum Land Management from the University of Houston. She is a Member of the American Association of Professional Landmen. Ms. Tipsword also holds a B.M. in Piano Performance from Texas Tech University and a M.M. in Collaborative Arts from Baylor University.
